The Muscat Day
The capital done properly in one day. No 4x4, barely any driving, home for dinner.
Mosque at nine while it is still calm, the opera house, then Mutrah for the whole afternoon — fish market, lunch, halwa, souq, fort — finishing at the palace when the light goes gold. The exact day from my reel, with the drive between each stop and what it costs. Any car does it, and most of the afternoon is on foot.

09:00 Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
Start here, before the heat and the coaches.
10:30 Royal Opera House
Elegance on another level, and the guided tour is the only way to see inside.
12:30 Mutrah fish market
Raw, local and completely unstaged, so walk through even if you buy nothing.
13:15 Lunch at Bait Al Luban
Traditional Omani food with the harbour in the window.
14:15 Halwa and kahwa on the corniche
Walk the water, then stop for Omani halwa and coffee.
14:45 Mutrah Souq
Go in without a plan and get lost. Frankincense, silver, textiles.
15:30 Matrah Fort
Climb it. One of the best views in Muscat.
16:15 Al Alam Palace
The palace and the two Portuguese forts on the cliffs above it. The reason it is last is the light.
