Card in the cities, cash in the mountains

Malls, hotels, restaurants and fuel stations all take card. Cash is for village shops, wadi entry and parking, the boat at Wadi Shab, souq haggling and the small places worth eating in. Carry 10 to 20 OMR and top it up whenever you pass through a town, because the last ATM before the mountains is further back than you think.
