The dhow-building capital, still building them.
Sur curls around a lagoon where wooden dhows have been launched for a thousand years. Whitewashed lanes, watchtowers, the Bilad Sur Castle, the Al Ayjah lighthouse walk, and a corniche made for slow evenings. The proper overnight stop before or after Ras Al Jinz.

How to get to Sur old town & corniche
- Route 17 all the way down the coast from Muscat, 2.5–3 hrs, tarmac throughout.
- Park by the corniche and do the town on foot, cross to Al Ayjah by the bridge for the lighthouse side.
What you'll do
- Walk the corniche at golden hour with the lagoon full of moored dhows.
- Look across to Al Ayjah's watchtowers and lighthouse, the classic Sur view.
- Poke around Bilad Sur Castle if it's open when you pass.
