The PDO beach at Ras Al Hamra, 'PDO Al Marjan beach' on the maps. Short walk after parking, then swim out over the seagrass and you're snorkelling with fish and occasionally turtles, no boat and no tour required; the brave take the jump rock at the far end. Public access until 7pm.

- The car park fills on busy days, park further out and walk.

- Swim out over the seagrass beds, that's where the turtles feed, usually between the first and second beach.
- Clarity swings with the wind and waves, calm days show far more life.
- Move slowly and keep your distance; they'll carry on grazing right next to you.
- Early morning = calmest water and the best visibility.
