Wakan Village
700 steps up through the orchards, and the blossoms in spring.
A tiny terraced village hanging 2,000m up the wall of Wadi Mistal, stone steps climbing through apricot and pomegranate gardens to a viewpoint over the whole valley. In late February the orchards blossom white and pink, and half of Oman drives up to see it.

How to get to Wakan Village
- Highway from Muscat toward Nakhal, 1.5 to 2 hrs in total.
- Turn into Wadi Mistal through the gap in the mountains.
- Up the switchbacks to the village car park. Steep and narrow, take the 4×4.
- Park there. The village itself is walking-only. No 4×4? Arrange a driver from the pickup point below and they'll run you up.
What you'll do
- Climb the stepped path, roughly 700 steps, through the terraced gardens.
- Look for the falaj channels, apricot, pomegranate and grape on the way up.
- Stop at the viewpoint platform at the top. The whole valley is under you.
- Come down slowly and let the village do its thing.
- Blossom season (late Feb–Mar): go early, on a weekday. It's Oman's worst-kept secret.

- Late February to mid-March for the blossoms, confirm timing on Instagram before you drive, the window is short.
- Go early: the light is better, the steps are cooler and the car park is small.
- It's 10–15°C cooler than Muscat up here. Bring the layer.

Oct–Apr (blossoms late Feb–Mar). Oman's summer (roughly May to September) is extremely hot inland, so plan outdoor places for the cooler months and go early in the day.
